The Highlights of Schöneberg

Discover where Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie lived. We learn how Schöneberg transformed from a medieval village to a vibrant district and how the "Rote Insel" (Red Island) developed from a left-wing working-class stronghold to a trendy neighborhood. We will venture to Berlin's supreme court-Kammergericht and the former location of the Berlin Sportpalast where Joseph Goebbels's made his infamous "Total War" speech.



Jewish Schöneberg 

Explore how Schöneberg became a haven for the Jewish middle classes of Berlin in the early 20th century. We will visit the "Wir Waren Nachbarn" (We Were Neighbors) exhibition at Rathaus Schöneberg where we will hear the fascintaitng stories of German Jewish artists, writers, and painters who resided in the district. See where Albert Einstein, Erich Fromm, and Billie Wilder lived and follow the trail of the Places of Remembrance Memorial.





Jewish Prenzlauer Berg

Explore 300 years of Jewish life in Berlin. Starting at Rosenthaler Platz, once the cattle gate and the only entry point for Jews into Berlin. We learn how Moses Mendelssohn started Jewish enlightenment. We visit the former Jandorf department store and discover how Jews contributed to commercial development in Berlin. We stroll to Senefelderplatz, an area that attracted East European Jews in the 20th century. We visit the Jewish Cemetery and the Rykestr. Synagogue from outside and end at an Israeli restaurant where we learn about Israeli cuisine. You can stay after the tour and enjoy tasty Israeli food!





Cold War Prenzlauer Berg 

Starting at the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Str., we hear heroic escape stories and how the division of the city affected the daily lives of those who stayed. We visit Zionskirche, a meeting point in the '80s for GDR opposition groups, and learn how protests and revolutions culminated in the fall of the Berlin Wall. Walking along Kastanienallee, we explore Prenzlauer Berg as a haven for young squatters before its gentrification.
